Judith A. LaRocque, deputy minister of Canadian Heritage, has been named as president of the Canadian chapter of the International Institute of Communications (IIC). She replaces Alliance Atlantis Communications executive chair Michael MacMillan, who held the position for several years. He was replaced at the IIC Canadian chapter’s conference on December 12-13. The Ontario branch of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers Inc. (SCTE) elected three new board members for 2006-07: John Anderson, Bruce Marshall and Boris Eventov. They join Michele Beck, Robin McIntyre and Laura O’Hare on the board. Retiring from the board are Ian Oliver, president; and Lawrence Watson, treasurer. Peter Miller has left CHUM Ltd., where he was VP of planning and regulatory affairs. David Goldstein is now the company’s main regulatory person. The Audio Visual Preservation Trust of Canada (AV Trust) has appointed Kelly Friesen as managing director of the organization. She will assist with the ongoing development and implementation of a variety of national programs, including Masterworks. Alan Horn will become vice chair of the board of Rogers Communications Inc. on April 25, 2006, the date of its annual shareholders’ meeting. At the meeting Horn will also be nominated as a director of the Rogers board. As well, he will become president and CEO of Rogers Telecommunications Ltd. after serving as CFO since 1996. At that time, William "Bill" Linton will take on the position of VP of finance and CFO. Linton is currently executive VP of Rogers, and prior to that was president and CEO of Call-Net Enterprises, which Rogers acquired in July 2005. He has been CFO of both Rogers Cable and Rogers Wireless. As well, Randy Reynolds has been named as president of Rogers Telecom Inc. He joined the company on December 12. Previously, he was president and CEO of BCE Mobile, as well as president and CEO of Bell Nexxia. Carrie Dumont has been appointed VP of business affairs at Cookie Jar Entertainment. She is charged with expanding the company’s property acquisition, development and merchandising activities. Samantha Hodder has been named as executive director of the Documentary Organization of Canada. Canadian production company Cineflix has brought BBC executive producer David Tibballs on board to run its factual entertainment unit in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. As well, Greg Lanning, Leonie Jameson and Philip Whelan have been hired as executive producers. Former Bell executive Pierre Blouin has been named CEO of MTS Allstream. He replaces Bill Fraser, who has retired. In memoryCHUM Ltd. company founder and Canadian broadcasting pioneer Allan Waters has passed away. He stepped down from his position of chair and president of the company in 2002, but remained a member of the board until October 2005, when he retired from the board and was named honorary director. He has served as president of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB), president of the Central Canada Broadcasters Association, and was founding chair of the Radio Sales Bureau and a director of CTV Television Network. Nova Scotia cable executive Charles Keating has died at age 72. At the time of his death, he was a director of Shaw Communications Inc. and numerous other organizations.
