Corus puts marketing team under one group in restructuring

Corus Entertainment Inc. is consolidating its marketing and promotional teams to better drive its audience engagement efforts, but it said it will not impact its content production . “As we look at how consumers continue to both discover and consume content across multiple platforms and the multitude of ways we now need to reach and engage our audiences, we have spent some time thinking about the optimal structure to best focus our efforts for the future,” vice-president of social media and communications Dervla Kelly said in an email. Kelly said Barbara Williams, executive vice-president and chief operating officer, delivered the details in a memo on Thursday. The newly created marketing team will also create “a tighter linkage with our social and short-form content expertise,” the memo read. Corus recently launched an initiative with its social studio So.Da to deliver short-form content on Twitter Inc.'s social media platform. The move comes following the company's disappointing third quarter, which showed further declines in their TV advertising revenues. During the conference call with analysts, CEO Doug Murphy laid out the company's long-term strategic vision and plan for the company to rebound while expressing optimism for the future. The integration also includes some role changes at the company, which will see Kelly become senior vice-president of marketing and social digital agency. “Under Dervla, we will consolidate our Marketing, Creative Agency, Publicity, Lifestyle Digital, Social and Media Planning functions into one team,” the memo said. The company will also be looking for a director of the “social digital agency,” which “will lead our social efforts internally, as well as externally via our new client facing offering, plus will manage our digital lifestyle site,” it said. The memo added: “The Global, Kids, and Drama digital teams will continue to report into Content as we focus our efforts in these verticals around apps and video platforms, managing content rights and windowing across platforms.” As a result of the transition, Allison Carr will take on the role of head of specialty, trade and BDU marketing, which will oversee marketing across the channels; Nadia Niccoli will be director of marketing for global; Brent Peterson will be group director of creative agency; Andrea Parnell is senior director of media planning; Karen Gellar is promoted to director of media planning; and Ashley Applebaum is director of publicity.
