NID not necessary for telephone service

The CRTC has yet to resolve a nearly two-year-old dispute between Bell Canada and Quebecor Media Inc. subsidiary Vidéotron ltée, but it has ruled that the network interconnection device (NID) – a box that connects the home to the telephone network – doesn't need to be installed in all residential premises.
