Interactive Ontario has announced that its GameON! project, which brings together Ontario's video game industry leaders, has been approved for funding through the Ontario Media Development Corp.'s Entertainment and Creative Clusters Partnerships Fund. The funding will go towards a number of strategic programs and services that aim to ‘power on' Ontario's games industry. "Video games are a very important part of our cultural economy and one that has much potential for growth in this province," said IO's president and CEO Ian Kelso. "We are very pleased that the Ontario Government has made video game development, along with other forms of interactive digital media, such a high priority." Planned activities include a series of workshops centered on business skills development, a speaker series in Ontario schools, and the creation of new marketing materials for trade events under the GameON! banner.
