The provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick plan to implement a new 911 emergency services collection mechanism, which has angered at least one wireless operator because it believes it is being forced to be the governments’ new tax collector. Parke Davis, senior regulatory and government affairs advisor at Telus Mobility, tells Report on Wireless the two provinces are asking wireless carriers to be the "heavies" and collect what is essentially a tax to fund the implementation and operation of the governments’ provincial 911 system.
