PM outlines new parliamentary committee to oversee security agencies

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the creation of a new National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians in a press release on Monday. This new body will “have the authority to review national security and intelligence activities carried out across the Government of Canada,” according to the release. These “activities” will include actions taken by government agencies like Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), the Canadian Security Establishment (CSE), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA), “amongst many others,” said the release. OTTAWA — Industry Minister James Moore continued to back his Digital Privacy Act, or Bill S-4, on Thursday as he faced questions from opposition members of a House committee about clauses that allow individuals' information to be shared between private-sector organizations.
