Watchdog warns CBC, government about language obligations

Official Languages Commissioner Graham Fraser on Thursday warned CBC/Radio-Canada and the federal government about obligations they have to provide programming services in both official languages as the public broadcaster downsizes its operations in the coming years. Fraser said in a news release that "the public broadcaster will have to be very aware of the duties incumbent upon it under the Official Languages Act pertaining to English-speaking communities in Quebec and French-speaking communities in other parts of Canada, as well as the promotion of linguistic duality."
