Ottawa council not backing CRTC’s FTTH ruling

Unlike their municipal colleagues in Toronto, members of Ottawa's city council decided against formalizing their support for the CRTC's decision to mandate wholesale access to fibre-to-the-home networks (FTTH), which is currently facing an appeal to the federal cabinet by BCE Inc.
During a Wednesday morning meeting, council voted 17-7 in opposition to a motion led by Couns. Jeff Leiper and Diane Deans that the City of Ottawa "support the CRTC's decision to require the sharing of fibre-optic networks between large and small competitors."
