Speculation that the federal government is poised to approve the acquisition of Mobilicity and its spectrum by Telus Corp. or Rogers Communications Inc. has some observers disagreeing whether this would represent a major departure for the federal government in its spectrum-transfer policy. Recent reports in the Globe and Mail indicated that both companies have submitted proposals to purchase Mobilicity. Mobilicity might have lost AWS-3 funding: report

Mobilicity might have been unable to raise the funds to bid in Tuesday’s AWS-3 spectrum auction because a $200-million financing deal fell through just minutes before the deadline, according to a report by the Financial Post. The company, which has been in creditor protection since September 2013, received court approval in January to raise the $62 million Industry Canada required as a deposit in the auction.
