In a report released Wednesday the International Energy Agency took aim at devices in standby mode, saying they waste billions of dollars worth of electricity each year through the use of inefficient technology. The agency said in a press release that $80 billion US is wasted each year, and that's expected to rise to $120 billion US by 2020 as more devices that weren't connected before — including washing machines, refrigerators and thermostats — come online.
