Tom Jenkins named NRC chairman

OpenText Corp. chairman Tom Jenkins was announced by Industry Canada Thursday as the new chairman of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). It said in a press release that the appointment took effect Feb. 5. Jenkins was president and CEO of OpenText between 1994 and 2005, and had experience with other technology companies and the government before that, according to his biography on the OpenText website. He was credited by Industry Canada as having "pioneered many of the technologies commonly used today to manage digital information to increase productivity and governance." Industry Minister James Moore said in the release: "His over 30 years of experience in innovation and economic development in both the private and public sectors in Canada will be of immense value to the council." OpenText Corp. chairman Tom Jenkins has been appointed to the National Research Council of Canada, the federal government announced Thursday. Jenkins will join the government council that provides Canada’s business community support on research and development. "Mr. Jenkins is well known for his innovative contributions to the Canadian high-technology sector," Industry Minister James Moore said in a press release. "His extensive knowledge and experience will bring a highly valued perspective to the work of the National Research Council of Canada."
