Verizon allows companies to cover data costs for consumer access

Verizon Communication Inc. announced Tuesday it is introducing a new sponsored data service, called FreeBee Data, to help businesses drive better consumer engagement without cutting into customers' mobile data allotments.  The U.S. carrier said in a press release that the service has two models. One is called FreeBee Data 360 and will allow content providers provide consumers with certain elements of mobile content — whether as apps or access to a website — and is based on a per gigabyte pricing model, and the data used is paid for by the company providing the content....

Verizon completes purchase of AOL

Verizon Communications Inc. announced Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of AOL Inc. The press release stated that “AOL is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Verizon." Verizon had announced in May that AOL would be bought for about $4.4 billion US. Verizon also will be launching a mobile video service this summer, according to an article from Multichannel News. The service will launch in the United States before expanding to other countries, the article said....

Kosiner Venture Capital Inc. has asked the CRTC to approve HuffPost Live, a television channel operated by AOL Inc.’s Huffington Post, for distribution in Canada.
