Canadian telecom service providers told the government that surveillance capabilities would soon become a normal feature of their networks, according to an Ottawa academic. Quoting documents obtained through an access-to-information request, University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist wrote in a Toronto Star column Friday that telecoms told the government that equipment manufacturers offered products with intercept capabilities.
