Yahoo buys Snapchat rival Blink

Yahoo Inc. has acquired mobile-messaging application company Blink, according to a blog post on the latter’s website. “We’re excited to announce that as of May 13, 2014 Blink is joining Yahoo!” Blink said. Blink's application lets users send self-destructing text messages, audio, sketches, video and photos, its website says. Snapchat offers a similar service. “We built Blink because we believe everyone should be free to show the same honesty and spontaneity in their online conversations as they can in person,” its blog added. “We look forward to the possibilities that will come from bringing the Blink vision to Yahoo.” Blink will be shutting down the application for both Google Inc.’s Android software and Apple Inc.’s iOS platform in the coming weeks, the blog said, though it added, “We hope you stick with us through the next chapter.” Terms of the acquisition were not released.
