ISED points to existing programs in response to rural broadband report

The government has responded to a House industry committee report that, among other recommendations, said the government should tackle the problem of rural broadband access in Canada and called for intentionally favouring small and non-traditional providers. Privacy heads ask for data protection in smart cities challenge

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) is asking the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities to consider how privacy protocols were implemented when selecting smart cities challenge winners.   “We strongly encourage you to require that the finalists commit to the preparation of privacy impact and threat risk assessments at the design stage and also commit to applying any resulting recommendations at the implementation stage,” said the joint letter, dated Tuesday and co-signed by privacy commissioners across the country.
