Quebec class action over Bell rate increases to proceed

The Quebec Superior Court has approved a class-action lawsuit against BCE Inc. for unilaterally changing the terms of contracts for its internet, landline, wireless and telephone services. The action, led by representative plaintiff Joseph Frainetti, argues the company unilaterally raised rates and lowered discounts. It says that violates Quebec’s consumer protection law, which stipulates such increases must be communicated in writing at least 30 days in advance, according to the court’s July 10 decision, written in French.
