Postmedia Network Canada Corp., operator of newspapers and news websites across Canada, reported on Thursday an $11.8-million first quarter net loss for the three months ended Nov. 30. Postmedia, which owns brands such as the National Post, the Montreal Gazette and Canada.com, said in a release it earned $6.7 million at the same time last year. Postmedia attributed the loss mostly to $15.3 million in increased restructuring costs, primarily related to outsourcing print production. It also noted a “modest decline” in operating income before depreciation, amortization and restructuring, which was down $3 million, or 6.1 per cent, to $46 million.
