Sandra Mackechnie to head BBC Canadian digital ad sales

BBC Worldwide North America announced Monday that it has appointed Sandra Mackechnie to the position of vice-president for digital ad sales at BBC.com’s Canadian office in Toronto. Mackechnie joins BBC from Postmedia Network Canada Corp., according to a press release, where she was head of digital strategy and vice-president of digital advertising since 2011. Comp Bureau approves proposed Sun Media sale

The Competition Bureau said Wednesday it will not challenge Postmedia Network Canada Corp.’s purchase of Quebecor Inc.’s English-language Sun Media newspapers. Postmedia reports $11.8-million quarterly loss

Postmedia Network Canada Corp., operator of newspapers and news websites across Canada, reported on Thursday an $11.8-million first quarter net loss for the three months ended Nov. 30. Postmedia, which owns brands such as the National Post, the Montreal Gazette and Canada.com, said in a release it earned $6.7 million at the same time last year. Postmedia attributed the loss mostly to $15.3 million in increased restructuring costs, primarily related to outsourcing print production. It also noted a “modest decline” in operating income before depreciation, amortization and restructuring, which was down $3 million, or 6.1 per cent, to $46 million.
