Shaw promises more integration with Freedom under new COO

Shaw Communications Inc. said Wednesday that its Freedom Mobile division will have a new chief operating officer, as Paul McAleese takes over from Alek Krstajic. CEO Brad Shaw said in a call with analysts that McAleese would “guide Freedom’s operations in continued growth going forward, and will be instrumental regarding the integration of our wireless operations within Shaw.” Analyst reaction Wednesday was mixed. Stingray expands Latin America presence

Stingray Digital Group Inc. said Friday it purchased Telefonica SA's pay-TV music service, which operates in six counties in Latin America plus Portugal. Montreal-based Stingray said in a press release it is taking over the Onthespot music service that  operates in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Portugal. The service is being rebranded as Stingray Music, it added. Mathieu Peloquin, spokesman for Stingray, said this acquisition brings its subscriber base in Latin America to about 30 million.
