Canadian telcos rejected mobile tower REIT: report

Canada’s “largest telcos” rejected a plan this year to spin off their wireless towers into a real estate investment trust (REIT), the Financial Post reported. In a report Friday, FP said Toronto-based investment firm Sentry Investments approached Canada’s wireless providers earlier this year with a plan to turn over their towers and the leases for the retail locations they sit on, in exchange for cash. The carriers declined the opportunity because they “didn’t see the value,” Dennis Mitchell, Sentry's chief investment officer, told the paper.
