Two years into its existence the Canadian Interactive Alliance/Alliance Interactive Canadienne (CIAIC) has finally hired its first executive director. And while CIAIC board members are congratulating themselves for finding such a fitting end to what was at times a frustrating search, we at Tech Media Reports can only say that their gain is our loss.

Embedded WiMAX not an area for Sierra Wireless

Competitors criticize bundling rule changes

A CRTC proposal to give incumbent telephone companies greater flexibility in bundling services in non-forborne markets is being met with stiff opposition from major communications competitors. The comments are part of a proceeding the commission kicked off in July to look at extending flexible bundling rules to areas of the country that aren't likely to be forborne from regulation in the near future.

Foleo won’t hit the market

Palm Inc. CEO Ed Cooligan announced on September 4 that the company would no longer continue development of the Foleo mobile companion computing device in its current iteration. However, the handheld device maker will revive the mobile device once its next-generation platform is complete.

CRTC overturns Ethernet and ADSL decisions

Incumbent telephone companies, Bell Canada, Bell Aliant, Telus Corp. and SaskTel will not have to implement previously mandated changes to some of their Ethernet and ADSL services that are made available to competitors. In Telecom Decision 2007-77, the CRTC overturned a number of decisions it made on January 24 following applications from the telcos.

Absolute announces new sale VP

Kevin Shabow has joined Absolute Software Corp. as VP of North American sales, effective September 4. He comes to Absolute from Gateway where he was National Director of sales for the company's professional sales division. This unit had revenue of US$1 billion. Shabow will be responsible for overseeing North American sales operations as well as strategy and execution within the company's North American Sales organization. His priorities will include expanding Absolute's business in the education, corporate and government market segments.
