Class-action will not shrink despite Videotron arbitration clause, court rules

The Superior Court of Quebec denied an application by Quebecor Inc.’s Videotron to exclude from a class-action group any companies that signed an arbitration clause with the telecommunication company, but narrowed the timeframe in which members are eligible at the request of BCE Inc.’s Télébec, in a lawsuit brought forward by a specialty food store in the province.

Tam refuses to appear before Ethics committee, Duclos to testify on Thursday

Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, has declined an invitation to speak with the House of Commons Ethics committee about a Request for Proposal (RFP) the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) issued regarding tracking of mobility statistics. Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos accepted the invitation and will address the Parliamentarians on Thursday.

Staffieri not pleased with cable, Rogers’ profit dip in first quarterly report as CEO

Rogers Communications Inc. reported a 10 per cent decline in profits for the three months ending on Dec. 31, and expressed disappointment in its cable division’s performance in what is the first quarterly earnings reported from the incumbent since its former CFO, Tony Staffieri, officially replaced Joe Natale as chief executive officer at the behest of the company’s chair, Edward Rogers.
