Group Telecom takes over C1 assets in Atlantic Canada
Toronto-based CLEC GT Group Telecom Inc is spending $70 million to buy C1 Communications Inc’s assets in Atlantic Canada. The telco, which recently purchased Cable Atlantic’s telecom service, is taking over the fibre network, on-net buildings, customers and employees of C1 Communications.

New Industry minister will decide the make up of new broadband task force

It will be up to Industry minister Brian Tobin to decide which sectors are represented on his new National Broadband Task Force, and how large it will be. The group’s newly appointed chair, David Johnston, says he expects the task force will include diverse representation from industry, government, local communities and public interest groups.

Telecom and other parts of the "new economy" are improving Canada’s economic performance, a new study reports. The Toronto Dominion Bank’s Quarterly Industrial and Provincial Forecast predicts GDP growth in each province and in many of these regions, the expansion is driven by the new economy.
