Man arrested for 3Com threat

Authorities in Dubuque IA last week arrested a man accused of sending threatening letters to an investment company, claiming the firm's employees would be harmed if it didn't help raise the share price of network equipment maker 3Com Corp. The Denver Post reports that in 2005, John Tomkins allegedly threatened to hurt financial advisors at Janus Capital Group in Denver if it didn't help 3Com's stock reach US$6.66 by Halloween. Tomkins is also said to have sent fake pipe bombs to frighten investment houses to boost shares of other companies in which he had invested.
