Lack of advertising hampers progress of online animation

Launching animation online will continue to face economic uncertainties until producers come up with business models that can attract advertisers, said a panel at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. In the meantime, producers would be well advised not to abandon traditional broadcast media anytime soon.

Supreme Court dismisses ringtone leave to appeal, CWTA disappointed

The Supreme Court of Canada has refused to hear an appeal to eliminate Tariff 24 – a levy on companies that provide ringtones to subscribers. And while the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association is disappointed in the decision, it’s hopeful potential reforms to copyright law will fix the situation.

Bell TV satellite on schedule to launch tomorrow

Telus’ Quebec employees ratify new deal

A majority of the members of the Syndicat des agents de maitrise de Telus (SAMT) have voted to accept Telus Corp.‘s memorandum of agreement reached on July 4. The SAMT represents more than 500 people employed in professional and supervisory positions working in the Lower Saint Lawrence, the Gaspe, Montreal, Quebec, Sainte-Marie, Saint-Georges, Baie-Comeau and Sept-Iles regions.
