Industry Canada could soon be implementing a new way to license spectrum with an official saying the department may adopt what is called "light licensing".

CRTC greenlights game and variety shows for MuchMusic

Older variety programs, such as Test Pattern, can now be rebroadcast on MuchMusic, the CRTC agreed Friday. The commission approved an application by CTVglobemedia Inc. to offer music-related variety programs and game shows on its MuchMusic channel, as long as they do not exceed 15% and 10% respectively in each broadcast week.

FCC’s white spaces ruling to have little immediate impact on Canada

The US Federal Communications Commission‘s decision last week to approve the use of white spaces TV spectrum – bandwidth for unused TV channels 2 to 51 – for broadband wireless access services is expected to have little near-term impact in Canadian border regions, according to an Industry Canada official.

Spectrum Signal selected for NATO R&D

Spectrum Signal Processing, a Vecima subsidiary, has announced that its flexComm SDR-4000 software defined radio platform has been chosen for research and development purposes by the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO), part of the Danish military. DALO is part of the NATO Research and Technology Organization (RTO) Task Group IST-080 that is currently studying how SDR technology can enable radio communications interoperability between nations, while reducing overall hardware costs.
