Online viewers forecast to reach nearly one billion by 2013

While today’s consumer is most likely to watch online video on the PC screen, over time more and more consumers will watch over-the-top video delivered to the living room, according a new study from ABI Research. This continued trend towards TV-viewed online video will help drive overall adoption, as the number of online video viewers grows from 563 million at the end of 2008 to 941 million by 2013.

Deaf and hard of hearing aware of increases in Closed Caption: CAB study

A study commissioned by the Canadian Association of BroadcastersCAB on Closed Captioning (CC) has found that over half of English language and two-thirds of French language participants are aware increases to captioning initiated in the last two years. The study, conducted earlier this month in Montreal and Toronto, gauged user reaction and responses to proposed CC standards developed by stakeholders in the industry. Specifically, the study sought to measure the reactions of the deaf and hard of hearing to two styles of CC: roll up (or scrolling) captioning and pop-on (or block scrolling). About 47 participants took part in the study. The following are some of the key findings:

Rx gets infusion of cash from Telus, Audiovox and BC Discovery Fund

OmniGlobe to buy RAMTelecom

OmniGlobe Networks Inc. has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to purchase RAMTelecom Inc. for $2.65 million. The LOI is not binding, but the two parties have agreed to negotiate a definitive agreement for the sale of all the shares of Misener Telecom Corp., the operating asset of RAMTelecom. The transaction is expected to close before February 28, 2009 and the 35th day after the execution of the definitive purchase agreement.
