MTS Allstream scores $13.5 million contract extension

Toronto-based MTS Allstream Inc. has extended its contract with Selectcom Telecom for another three years. The $13.5 million contract include a full suite of enterprise telecom services such as domestic long distance, international long distance, calling cards, toll free, Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), Internet, local lines and privates lines. Montreal-based Selectcom Telecom is a fully Canadian-owned Virtual Network Operator offering a range of integrated communications products and services.

RAMTelecom signs LOI to sell satellite services company

RAMTelecom Inc., Ottawa, has entered into a Letter of Intent to sell its satellite services division, R.A. Misener Telecom Corp., Montreal-based OmniGlobe Networks Inc. for $2.65 million. The transaction is subject to several conditions, including due diligence, regulatory and shareholder approvals. The closing date is February 28.

Demand for skilled IT people remains stable

The need for skilled IT staff remains stable despite the current economic crisis, according to a new survey commissioned by the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report. The survey of more than 270 CIOs from companies across Canada with 100 or more employees found that 21% plan to expand their IT departments in the first quarter of 2009 and 4% expect staff cutbacks.

Network throttling in Nunavut is part of daily life and will only get worse unless the government takes action to replace expensive satellite links with fibre as the main method for moving data into and out of remote communities, a Nunavut group tells the CRTC. The situation, it warns, is even more critical as Nunavut arguably has more people involved in the production of media content per capita than any other jurisdiction in Canada.

Mediagrif CEO and chair resign

Denis Gadbois has resigned as president and CEO of Mediagrif Interactive Technologies Inc., Longueuil QC, as has executive chair Léon Courville, although he will remain on the board as a director. Other resignations from the board include Tom Wolf and David Rutledge. They have been replaced by Claude Roy, president/CEO of Logibec Groupe Informatique Ltd., Marc Brunet, CFO of Logibec and Michel Dubé, president of Van-Action (2005) Inc.
