The Forum for Research and Policy in Communications (FRPC) and the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) are not happy with how the CRTC is handling their request to hold one proceeding on several proposed changes to the conditions of licence (COL) for Canadian broadcasters.

Canadian, Alberta governments invest $96M in high-speed internet

The federal and Alberta governments announced a $96 million plan to roll out high-speed broadband in the province Tuesday. Each government will invest $48 million. This is the latest in a series of funding announcements across the nation.

Support grows for Meta boycott following News Act blackout

CRTC keeps Phase II wholesale rates approach with enhancements

The CRTC has opted to keep its cost-based rate setting approach for wholesale telecom services but made a few enhancements such as directing wholesale service providers to provide market-level information with its rate-setting applications,  ensuring regular updates are made to the Regulatory Economic Studies Manuals (manuals) which cable carriers must file in nine months, and allowing providers to use the approved rates of other service providers.

ISED issues regulations on airport 5G interference

The Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) has set up rules around fixed and mobile broadband systems operating near airports. The move comes after a months-long consultation process with interested stakeholders. Nineteen participants gave their views, including telecoms, industry leaders and other government departments.
