Downtown Ottawa pilot project for distress line to complement 988

A pilot project that will see community health workers dispatched to people in distress will roll out in Ottawa’s Centretown district next year. Experts expect it will complement the 988 emergency number which the CRTC approved last year.

CRTC boosts Iristel case in Bell disconnection dispute

The CRTC has extended an olive branch to Iristel Inc. in its current dispute with BCE Inc. over disconnection. Bell and Northwestel had threatened to cut off service to Iristel customers in a few weeks over non-payment of fees. The competitive carrier filed a Part 1 application seeking help.

Bell files leave to appeal over CRTC decision to renew its licence without hearing

BCE Inc. filed an application with the Federal Court of Appeal for leave to appeal a CRTC decision which renewed its television and specialty channel broadcast licences without initiating a hearing or consultation process.

Calgary leads PSAP fight for N911 testing

The City of Calgary, on behalf of other stakeholders across the nation, is seeking a CRTC decision in support of Next Generation 911 (NG911) testing that will affect public safety answering points (PSAPs). It filed a Part 1 application in late September that was only published on the commission website this week.

Both sides react to MVNO decision from CRTC

Both BCE Inc. and Quebecor Inc. have reacted to the CRTC’s decision that Bell Mobility’s offer on mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) should be adopted by arbitration. The decision was released Tuesday.
