Sears wishes for advertising sway in deal with Corner Gas

Sears Canada’s Wish Book will make its way to Dog River SK this year, joining past guests such as Canadian icons the high-flying Snowbirds, the band Tragically Hip, and former NHL hockey player Darryl Sittler on CTV Inc.’s hit series Corner Gas. But the Wish Book’s involvement comes courtesy of a deal brokered by Sears Canada’s media buying agency Mediaedge: cia, as the retailer makes its first foray into having its advertising integrated into a show.

Broadcasters test podcasting although no business case has yet emerged

 Because they think it will become more important in the on-demand listening and viewing world, broadcasters have begun to experiment with podcasting even though there is no established business case yet for the delivery of non-real-time audio feeds.

Gaming industry in crisis: opening keynote at Montreal International Gaming Summit
The second Montreal International Gaming Summit opened today on a sobering note, with a veteran game designer warning the game design industry is at a crossroads. "Ironically, it’s not going to be the game guy who’s going to be so cheery and upbeat," said Warren Spector, founder, president and project manager at Austin TX-based Junction Point Studios, during his opening keynote speech. He listed a catalog of potential opportunities and pitfalls facing the gaming industry, including a lack of breadth and depth in product offerings, consolidation due to big media conglomerates buying game design studios, and rising costs leading to work being outsourced offshore. "The struggle ahead is going to be dramatic, but I think it’s important to remember we work in a media of staggering potential," he said.
