While small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), artists and self-employed individuals have learned to harness the networking and promotional benefits of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, the opportunities are now ripe for larger companies to jump aboard, says the Info Tech Research Group.

Experienced exec joins Adcentricity’s board of directors

Kevin Shea, former president and CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio and YTV Canada, has joined the board of directors of Adcentricity Inc., a digital out-of-home media sales company. Shea, an executive with extensive experience in the broadcasting, cable, and telecommunications industry, is currently chair of the Ontario Media Development Corporation and president of SeaChez Inc., a consulting firm whose clients include the CBC, TELUS Communications, and Standard Broadcasting.

Ottawa fibre-to-the-home experiment hits a snag

An innovative trial to bring a dedicated fibre optic link to 250 households in downtown Ottawa has failed to sign up any customers, due to a combination of existing regulations and a lack of competitors in the ISP market. But despite the hurdles, a policy analyst with Google says having customers own their own fibre could become a model for the future.
