The wide-area network (WAN) presents more challenges than does the local-area network (LAN). That’s why David Komaromi, data and telecommunications manager for law firm Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP in Toronto, would rather control how his voice packets travel over the WAN than leave it up to a carrier.

Bell to provide Internet congestion data to CRTC on June 23

Bell Canada was ordered by the CRTC last week to provide information proving its network is being congested by the increasing use of peer-to-peer file sharing by June 23. The company had previously supplied this information in confidence to the commission, but the Canadian Association of Internet Providers requested the data be made public. The release of this information to the public is part of the ongoing dispute between CAIP and Bell over the ISPs traffic management practices.

Auction Day 18: MTS Allstream may be nearing the end of the road

It appears as though MTS Allstream has reached price exhaustion for the 10 MHz D-band set aside licences covering Winnipeg and Brandon as the company relinquished 24 eligibility points yesterday, enough to cover those two properties. MTS used its final waiver in Round 90, leaving the company without any flexibility for the remainder of the auction. And the very next round, the Manitoba-based provider gave up 24 eligibility points the exact amount needed to bid on the tier three licences for Winnipeg and Brandon in either the 10 MHz D-band or E-band. Those 24 points were also needed to bid on the 10 MHz C-band set-aside licence covering all of Manitoba.
