Court of Appeal directs CRTC to reconsider Radio-Canada N-word decision

In a Thursday ruling, the Federal Court of Appeal sided with Société Radio-Canada (SRC) and ordered the CRTC to reconsider a decision chastising the public broadcaster for using the N-word on air.

Canadian Digital Regulators Forum established to address digital policy

The Competition Bureau, CRTC, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner have set up the Canadian Digital Regulators Forum as part of a joint effort to tackle “matters that relate to digital markets and platforms,” they announced in a press release Friday.

Feds earmark $5.5 million to fight disinformation

The federal government is spending $5.5 million to create the Canadian Digital Media Research Network (CDMRN), it was announced Wednesday. The organization will combat disinformation and will promote digital literacy in this country. It will be administered by the Media Ecosystem Observatory, a joint project between Montreal’s McGill University and the University of Toronto.

Online News Act should be passed despite imperfections, Senators told

Tuesday the Senate Transport and Communications Committee continued its study of Bill C-18, the Online News Act. Witnesses told the panel they had concerns about the legislation but nothing so great as to cause Senators to scuttle it.

TikTok facing public relations crisis: report

Monday Horizon Media Canada released a report that found TikTok is facing a crisis in trust due to the bad press it has been receiving of late. There are concerns that the Chinese-owned platform may be sharing users’ private data with the government of the communist country. Canada has vowed to be vigilant in tracking the company.
