Regulator seeks to move telemarketing limits from regional to national level

The CRTC is looking to impose telemarketing restrictions across the country. Currently the rules apply only to certain ILECs and to CLECs that operate in the same territory. The regulations do not affect independent telcos, IXCs or wireless service providers (WSPs).

Proposal to build national Internet network challenges “big iron” telecom networks

Preliminary discussions with the federal government and industry stakeholders have begun to create a $50-$150 million optical network linking Canada with Europe and Asia to create a global Internet hub in this country. The idea has already received the support of the board of directors of CANARIE Inc, which is now looking to Industry Canada to endorse the concept, and ultimately provide public funding to finance the project.

Only in the position since last October, Bennis quit to take a job in the U.S. The company has appointed board member Peter Tanaka as the acting president while it searches for a new boss.

An optical network dedicated to Internet traffic may sound futuristic, but not for people who work at Canada’s advanced Internet development organization. At CANARIE Inc, it’s an obvious solution to the current bandwidth and technical limitations of existing telephone networks. With digital media applications and services becoming more widespread within both businesses and homes, it may be time for our 100-year-old telephone network to retire.

WorkdayTV teams with National Post
Media darling WorkdayTV.com has teamed with the National Post Online in a strategic alliance to integrate content and provide investors and viewers with breaking investment news. The arrangement will result in regular daily broadcasts on WorkdayTV.com from the National Post newsroom and the Post will feature a link to the Internet broadcaster. No details of the arrangement were disclosed. WorkdayTV has also created a new partnership with Fundlibrary.com, a subsidiary of StreetViews Inc. The new alliance will feature a segment on the Internet broadcast delivering real-time commentary on mutual fund investments and related topics.
