Branchez-vous unveils new executive team

Following its acquisition this week of NetWorldMedia, Branchez-vous has announced several senior management changes. Ad sales and website representation operations will be overseen by Gino Coutu, who has been appointed co-president and COO. Three vice presidents will report to him: Sébastien Goulet (VP, business development and media innovation), Michel Tardif (VP, sales, Quebec), and Andrew Morgan (VP, sales, English Canada).

Merger creates new heavyweight in Internet ad market

Monteral-based Branchez-vous has finalized its $4.68 million acquisition of NetWorldMedia, giving it control over 400 websites across Canada. NetWorldMedia, also of Montreal, is one of the fastest growing ad networks in Canada, representing such properties as Canada411 and SuttonQuebec. The combined company has annual sales of more than $8 million.

Bell wants ADAD rules changed

Bell Canada and Bell Aliant Regional Communications want the CRTC to update the Automatic Dialing-Announcing Device (ADAD) telecommunications rules and are threatening an appeal if the commission doesn’t do so as part of a follow-up proceeding to the unsolicited telemarketing rules (UTR).

Guest-Tek names acting CFO

Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment Ltd., a Calgary-based broadband technology solutions company, announced today that Geoff Clark has resigned as CFO. David Simpson has been named acting CFO, effective immediately. Simpson has been the company’s controller for two years and has held senior financial positions in a number of technological companies. Guest-Tek is the world’s largest provider of IP based technology solutions for the hospitality industry, supporting 2,879 properties and over 505,000 rooms.

S-VOX hires VP regulatory affairs

Monique Lafontaine will join Vision TV owner S-VOX as VP regulatory affairs effective Nov. 24. Most recently, Lafontaine was general counsel and director of regulatory affairs for the Directors Guild of Canada. She has also worked as a policy analyst for the CRTC and has co-authored both the Regulatory Guide to Canadian Television Programming and the Canadian Broadcasting Regulatory Handbook.

Canadian wireless landscape set to change next year

The Canadian wireless industry will see some significant changes in the next year with many new entrants planning service launches in the coming months, following their wins in the recent Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum auction. While Vidéotron, Globalive Communications and BMV Holdings have announced 2009 launch plans, western cable giant Shaw Communications has decided to hold off on any significant wireless investments in 2009.
