The Attorney General of Canada will not make any representations for itself in an application for judicial review to which it is a party over the CRTC’s renewal of the CBC/Radio-Canada‘s license.

OneSoccer demands carriage on Rogers

An independent soccer channel is petitioning the CRTC to force Rogers Communications Inc. to carry its programming on the telecom giant’s cable network. Timeless Inc., parent company of OneSoccer channel, has filed a seven-page document with the commission. Currently, only Telus Corp. offers OneSoccer in its programming lineup.

Canadian politicians subject to police surveillance, Ethics committee told

The Parliamentary committee looking at so-called on device investigation tools (ODITs) was told that some politicians are being looked at as security risks. Former CSIS agent Michel Juneau-Katsuya told MPs on the House of Commons Ethics committee that several politicians, at all levels of service, have been under investigation for connections to foreign players.

PIAC, pensioners want cabinet to overturn CRTC’s CBC licence renewal

The National Pensioners Federation and the Public Interest Advocacy Centre have filed a petition asking cabinet to overturn the CRTC’s renewal of the CBC/Radio-Canada broadcast licence. The decision contravenes broadcasting policy, they maintain, and should be thrown out. Failing that, the government should send the decision back to the regulator for reconsideration, they argue.

Bell revenues up, profits down as company releases Q2 numbers

BCE Inc. announced revenues of $5.86 billion for the second quarter of 2022 Thursday, a jump of 2.9 per cent over the figures for a year ago. Net earnings declined 10.9 per cent over the same period, to $654 million. Bell attributed the fall to higher expenses, higher depreciation and amortization and higher severance, acquisition and other costs.
