Alberta given 811 number for non-urgent health triage
The CRTC has approved an application by Alberta Health and Wellness to use the 811 number for a non-urgent health care triage phone line (Telecom Decision 2005-39). Many of the phone companies currently use the 811 number for customer service. MTS Allstream said it could stop using the number within 30 days notice of a similar service being established, and Bell Mobility and TELUS stated they needed six months from the date of the CRTC decision.

Regulatory framework needed before local service deregulated: CLECs

CLECs urged the CRTC to adopt appropriate market criteria and institute a framework for the future before proceeding with any forbearance from regulation of local exchange services. While the Competition Bureau insists that forbearance is "critical to the development of competitive local phone services in Canada," those who would be competing with the ILECs feel the market does not yet warrant deregulation.
