Craig Wireless CEO steps down

Craig Wireless Systems Ltd. has announced that David Lazzarato has resigned as CEO, effectively immediately. Boyd Craig and Drew Craig, the current co-chairmen of the company, have been appointed as co-CEO. Lazzarato has agreed to assist the Craig Wireless with in a transition phase.

Former CHUM executive joins OUTtv

Jay Switzer, former CEO of CHUM Ltd., has joined the board of OUTtv, Canada’s gay and lesbian television channel. Switzer tried to secure a similar licence while he was at CHUM.

Asian TV Network seeks to add five channels

The Asian Television Network has applied to the CRTC to add five non-Canadian, third language services for distribution on a digital tier, including one dedicated to Bollywood movies. The deadline for comments is Nov. 21.

MetroBridge appoints acting CFO

MetroBridge Networks International Inc., Vancouver, has appointed Connie Yip as controller and acting chief financial officer effective immediately. Most recently, Yip was director of finance at DDB Canada, a division of Omnicom Canada Inc., where she had responsibility for the division’s finance, treasury, accounting, and IT functions. Previously, she held various senior level accounting positions at several companies including Sleep Country Canada Inc., and Polaris Water Company Inc.

Lack of subsidies will limit participation by “ordinary Canadians” in new media review

Participation by non-commercial, public and consumer groups will be limited in the CRTC‘s new media review because legislation only allows for such subsidies in telecom proceedings, warns the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. The alternative, says PIAC, is to make a complaint in the form of a "tin cup rattle" for assistance, which usually goes unheeded.

Industry Canada appoints new ADM, SIIT

Industry Canada has finally appointed a full time assistant deputy minister for Spectrum, Information Technologies & Telecommunications (SITT), following the departure of Michael Binder in January to become interim president of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. (Binder was subsequently appointed full-time president and will serve a five-year term).
